Headaches and Chiropractic Treatment: What You Should Know

by | October 26, 2016

Headaches are very common, in fact 9 out of 10 Americans suffer from some type of headache. These headaches can be occasional, frequent, dull and throbbing or some can cause debilitating pain and nausea. There are also many different causes for headaches including: food, behavior(s), environmental stimuli and the most common is muscle tension in the neck.

Treatments for headaches can consist of chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic exercises, electric stimulation, intersegmental traction, Graston Technique or Kinesio Taping. Dr. Royer will determine the appropriate care for you depending on the results of your evaluation. Dr. Bryan D. Royer was one of the first healthcare providers in the Toledo area who is certified in Graston Technique and Kinesio Taping. He is also a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist and certified in sports medicine.

A 2014 report in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) found that interventions commonly used in chiropractic care improved outcomes for the treatment of acute and chronic neck pain and increased benefit was shown in several instances where a multimodal approach to neck pain had been used1. Also, a 2011 JMPT study found that chiropractic care, including spinal manipulation, improves migraine and cervicogenic headaches2.
